What is a dental implant, and who is it for?

A dental implant is a titanium post placed into the jawbone to act in place of a natural tooth root, then topped with an abutment and a crown. The result is a firmly anchored tooth that chews close to natural — without grinding down the neighbouring teeth as a bridge would, and without removing it to clean as with a removable denture.

The dentist assesses your X-rays and bone before planning every case. After the implant is placed, the bone needs about 3–6 months to fuse with it before the permanent crown goes on; cases with insufficient bone may need a bone graft first.

A removable denture feels loose or not confident

Frequently asked questions

Does getting an implant hurt?
The surgery is done under local anaesthetic, so you feel no pain during the procedure. Afterwards there may be some tenderness for 2–3 days, which eases with the recommended pain relief.
How long do implants last?
With good hygiene and regular check-ups, implants can last for decades. The integrated root is usually permanent, while the crown on top may need care or replacement over time.
How much does an implant cost? Can I pay in instalments?
From 45,000 THB and up to around 60,000 THB per tooth depending on the implant system (crown included). 0% instalments are available up to 10 months via participating credit cards.
Can I have an implant if my bone is insufficient?
In many cases yes — a bone graft may be needed first or at the same time as placement. The dentist assesses this from your X-rays and explains before starting.
How long does the whole process take?
From placement to the permanent crown usually takes about 3–6 months in total, depending on bone integration and whether a bone graft is needed.
